The first episode is about the Jenny Jones murder.
For those of you who don't remember: Jones did a show where people reveal "a secret crush." During a taping, Scott Amedure revealed that he was attracted to an acquaintance, Jonathan Schmitz. Three days later, Schmitz confronted Amedure and shot him twice in the chest.
I'd forgotten how many of those tawdry shows were on the air at that time.
Schmitz served 20 years in jail and is now out (of jail, that is).

I'd forgotten the details of that case. I had assumed that the killer was humiliated on the show and that is why the other guy was killed.
But it appears that the reason was something that happened in the next two days.
Amedure, Schmitz and Amedure's fag hag all went out together after the show. So apparently, Schmitz wasn't angry.
Amedure told people that Schmitz and he slow danced and kissed. The fag hag said that didn't happen.
I wonder if this got back to Schmitz horribly homophobic father.

Such a sad story. Yeah, it was tawdry, but there are worse on tv every day and I don't think it was possible to see that the straight guy was going to fucking murder the poor gay guy. Jenny Jones slipped away into obscurity, only to resurface on Youtube where she hosts cooking segments. She is a delight to watch. Like Martha Stewart, she is Polish, and makes all kinds of traditional Polish dishes. I don't blame the whole thing on her as many do.

It's interesting how all those shows were basically rip-offs of Jerry Springer.
The documentary says that Jenny Jones started off as a pleasant show, but she realized that the more she made it tacky like Jerry Springer, the better the ratings were.
There were so many shows that guaranteed their screaming Roman Colosseum audiences the red meat of humiliation. Jerry Springer. Jenny Jones, Sally, Maury, Montel, etc.
And then there were gone.

I'm not excusing the killing, but I did feel a bit sorry for him.
There was testimony that his family had questioned his sexuality. And his father testified that me told his son how disgusting "faggots" are after he appeared on Jenny Jones.
And if he is bipolar (that is to say, that wasn't just a twinkie defense), then it seemed like a toxic combination.
