Amaro Jr. is a former professional baseball player and general manager. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1991 to 1998 and was the general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies from 2008 to 2015. Amaro was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he played college baseball for the Quakers. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1987 MLB draft in the second round.

Amaro made his major league debut with the Phillies in 1991. He spent the next seven seasons with the Phillies, playing mostly as a center fielder. He was a member of the Phillies’ 1993 National League championship team. In 1998, Amaro was traded to the New York Mets. He played one season with the Mets before being released.
