Rubén Amaro Jr. is an American former professional baseball outfielder and General manager (GM). Amaro played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1991 to 1998. He was named the GM of the Philadelphia Phillies on November 3, 2008, succeeding Pat Gillick, and remained in that position until September 10, 2015.
He was previously the first base coach for the Boston Red Sox (2016–2017) and New York Mets (2018). He is the son of former MLB infielder and coach, Rubén Amaro Sr.

He graduated from Stanford University in 1987 with a degree in economics. In 1985 and 1986, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League and was named an all-star in both seasons. He was a member of the Stanford team that won the NCAA 1987 College World Series. After graduating from Stanford, Amaro was drafted by the California Angels in the 11th round of the 1987 MLB draft.

Amaro Jr. is a former professional baseball player and general manager. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1991 to 1998 and was the general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies from 2008 to 2015. Amaro was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he played college baseball for the Quakers. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1987 MLB draft in the second round.
Amaro made his major league debut with the Phillies in 1991. He spent the next seven seasons with the Phillies, playing mostly as a center fielder. He was a member of the Phillies’ 1993 National League championship team. In 1998, Amaro was traded to the New York Mets. He played one season with the Mets before being released. He signed with the Boston Red Sox in 1999 but was released after only 11 games.
Amaro finished his career with a .235 batting average, 16 home runs, and 100 runs batted in. After his playing career, Amaro joined the Phillies’ front office as a scout.
